Delhi Public School, Mathura Road began in 1949 in a few tents on a plot of land cleared of brambles — a modest start to what has since grown into one of New Delhi's most distinguished co-educational day-cum-boarding schools, spread across roughly 15 acres of green campus in the heart of the capital.
The school's roots go back further still, to New Delhi Church High School, which after Independence became known as Naveen Bharat High School. In 1949, it was brought under the Delhi Public School Society, and it was this moment that set in motion the DPS legacy on Mathura Road. Seven years later, in 1956, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, then Vice President of India, laid the foundation stone of the school building that stands today.
In the decades since, DPS Mathura Road has built a reputation for academic excellence alongside a genuine emphasis on character, leadership and all-round growth. That legacy is reflected in its alumni, who include Ravi Singh, Secretary General and CEO of WWF-India; Ashwani Kumar, former Union Minister of Law and Justice and Sanjay Kumar, former Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education. The creative and sporting worlds have also been enriched by the achievements of alumni such as Vinod Khanna, Kabir Bedi, Anuja Chauhan, Rohit Bal, Yuki Bhambri, and Pawan Negi. The school today carries this heritage forward while looking firmly ahead. Its campus is equipped with well-resourced laboratories, libraries, computer facilities and sports infrastructure that support learning both inside and outside the classroom. In keeping with its focus on innovation, the school launched its AI Innovation & Incubation Centre, inaugurated on 23 April 2026 by Shri Om Birla, Hon'ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Academically, DPS Mathura Road offers Humanities, Commerce and Science streams under the CBSE curriculum, along with the Cambridge International Curriculum from Early Years-1 to Class I.
