International Day for Biodiversity

The United Nations has proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.

Class I, II, III

Children were taken for a “Nature Walk” around the school campus and they noticed the biodiversity present in school like different trees, plants, flowers, birds, insects etc. After coming to the class they also drew on the theme of “Biodiversity in my school”

Class IV, V

Children were given a video to watch at home and next day there was a group discussion in the class about the steps that can be taken at individual levels to preserve biodiversity.

Through the above activities children came to know about the

Biodiversity in their school and around them. They also became aware about the ways to preserve it.

Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EARTHDAY.ORG

17th- 21st April

Class I

Children were shown a YouTube video- “How to take care of the environment” After watching the video children depicted drawings and wrote some important points that they remember. They also sang a song which was played on smartboard.

Class-II-III

Show and Tell

Children brought an object from home which they have reused. They also did “Show and Tell” about the same in class.ie. how it is helping to save the Mother Earth. They also sang a song on Earth Day.

Class-IV

Nature Bazaar

Children were encouraged to bring any waste material from home and make a unique craft item of their choice. They also displayed the same in their class.

Class V

Carbon Footprint on Earth

Children were shown some videos to spread awareness about Carbon Footprint. Children brought a one side used A4 size sheet with one foot printed on it. They painted and printed their own foot. On the same sheet they wrote ways to reduce the Carbon Footprint on Earth.

Envvironment Club March’23

3.3.23- World Wildlife Day

March 3 is World Wildlife Day. It is a United Nations International day to celebrate all the world's wild animals and plants and the contribution that they make to our lives and the health of the planet.

Class I- Children were encouraged to draw and colour their favourite wild animal and write one special quality of the same.

Class II- Children were shown a video on “World Wildlife Day”. They were encouraged to learn about any one endangered animal and ways to preserve it. They also drew posters on the same in school.

Through the above activities children became aware of the importance of wildlife and ways to preserve the same.

20.2.23—24.2.23 Spring is in the air

Class I,II

Children were taken for a walk around the campus. They were encouraged to observe flowers on the way. Teachers told the names of those flowers to children. After coming back to their class they drew and coloured any one flower they liked the most.

Class III, IV and V

Children went for a nature walk. After coming back to the class they sketched and painted the nature (flowers, trees, sky) that they observed. The teachers also told the children about preserving the beauty of nature.

Children came to know about different flowers. They learnt to appreciate the beautiful nature around them and understood the importance of preserving it.

Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School hosted the Inter School Athletic Meet on 09-02-23 and 10-02-23. A total of 12 schools participated in the Meet. Class IV and V students from DPS Mathura Road participated in various track and field events.

16.1.23 TO 20.1.23 Makar Sankranti/Pongal/Lohri

Children were shown a video on Makar Sankranti/Lohri and Pongal. They were be taken out to the MPH Hall for learning Surya Namaskar (as a gesture to pay gratitude to the Sun which is a source of life on this planet). Children became aware about the harvest festivals and their relation with the Sun as these festivals mark the end of winter and beginning of summer


विश्व हिंदी दिवस रिपोर्ट

10 जनवरी 1975 को सर्वप्रथम विश्व हिंदी दिवस मनाया गया| तब से हर साल 10 जनवरी को हिंदी भाषा के प्रचार, प्रसार और प्रयोग को बढ़ावा देने के लिए अतंर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर विश्व हिंदी दिवस मनाया जाता है। इसे मनाने का उद्देश्य दुनियाभर में फैले हिंदी बोलने वाले लोगों को एकजुट करना, हिंदी की आवश्यकता तथा इसके महत्त्व से अवगत कराकर विदेशी लोगों को भी इसके प्रति आकर्षित करना है।

10 जनवरी 2023 को कक्षा 1 से 5 तक के छात्रों को विश्व हिन्दी दिवस के बारे में जानकारी प्रदान करने हेतु उनकी हिन्दी कक्षा में एक वीडियो प्रस्तुति दिखाने का आयोजन किया गया| साथ ही साथ अध्यापिका द्वारा छात्रों को हिन्दी भाषा का महत्त्व भी समझाया गया|

इसके अंतर्गत बच्चों ने हिंदी भाषा की शान में सचित्र स्लोगन लिखकर पूरे उत्साह के साथ सुंदर पोस्टर बनाए।

इस गतिविधि द्वारा बच्चों को हिन्दी के अधिकाधिक प्रयोग और शुद्ध हिन्दी बोलने के लिये भी प्रेरित किया गया ।

Aditya Gupta and Divisha Chaudhary won the Third Prize in the Relay Writing Event. They were each awarded with a book and a certificate. Certificate of participation were also received by all four participants.


Football Tournament

Junior school’s football team took part in the fourth edition of Paul George Global School’s annual Football Tournament held at Paul George Global School, Alaknanda, New Delhi, from 17th to 18th November 2022. The team secured third place in the tournament and Gauransh Wassan of IV-E won the Best Player of the Tournament award.

New Year's Card/ Resolution Activity


Binsar Farm- An Affair To Remember

A field trip to Binsar Farms, Sonipat was planned for the students of classes 4 and 5, in December 2022. Five hundred students, twenty teachers, and two lady guards went on this excursion. On reaching the farm, students were briefed about the farm. They were given an appealing engaging pamphlet to note down their observation as they navigated through a well-maintained farm. The students saw a large number of cows, of different varieties. The high point for the enthusiastic students was the cow nursery, where the calves were taken care of. They stroked and touched calves excitedly. The students then moved to the milking station where one could see the machines used for milking the cows. After the milking process, the students saw cheese, butter, paneer, and ghee packaging at the processing unit. They also saw the bottling and packaging of milk here. The farm had a large number of workers in clean and hygienic attire.

Learning and fun always make a great combination. Students were able to spend much of the educational trip day in small groups, observing, chatting, and learning with each other. The students also had a pleasant time while travelling with their classmates and friends. They returned with an enriching experience, new knowledge, and happy memory.

Fit India WeeK

Fit India School Week is the flagship programme dedicated to schools to encourage inculcating fitness habits and increase awareness for fitness and sports among students. Fit India School Week was observed from 31st November,2022 to 5th December,2022 in the Primary Wing for the students of classes 1 to 5 to reaffirm the importance of fitness in an individual’s daily life. Children participated in various activities like Kho-kho, yoga and meditation, fitness test, essay writing on their favourite game and poster making on their favourite sports person. It was a very successful initiative to bring awareness in students towards fitness and good health.


EECC Activities

World Soil Day
World Soil Day 2022 (#World Soil Day) and its campaign "Soils: Where food begins" aims to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, increasing soil awareness and encouraging societies to improve soil health. It was celebrated in the junior school with full enthusiasm and intensity.

2.12.22 Class I and II –Know about Soil Erosion and need to save it
Children were shown videos about “layers of soil” and “What is Soil Erosion and Conservation?”
This was followed by a discussion on the need to save soil. Children learnt about the soil erosion, its causes and ways to stop it.

2.12.22 Class IV- Experiment
Children did an experiment- Bread and flour demonstration to understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy soil. A PPT was provided for the same.

5.12.22 Class III and V-Walkathon
Children and teachers of Class III and V tightened their shoe laces as they walked for soil. A “Walkathon” on “Save Soil” happened by the children and teachers of classes 3 and 5 to spread the awareness about the dying soil. They were encouraged to wear a green jacket/sweater/sweatshirt etc on top. They also carried some beautiful posters and placards made by them.

All the children across grades I-V were distributed stickers on “Save Soil” to be sticked on the vehicles of their parents. The aim was to spread awareness about the dying soil across the globe.


Constitution Day

Constitution Day also known as 'Samvidhan Divas', is celebrated in our country on 26th November every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. On 26th November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, which came into effect from 26th January 1950.


EECC Activities

21.11.22- Class I and II- Save Water

Children were shown a video on “Save water” and they were guided not to waste water in school, their homes and any places they visit. They were encouraged to share their practices with their parents, relatives, friends and neighbors. Children were involved in the discussion and shared their experiences also.

22.11.22-Class III, IV and V-Water Conservation

Children were encouraged to read and research about “Water Conservation”. They were shown a video too. They made a poster on one side used A4 sheet. They liked the activity and prepared the posters with a lot of enthusiasm.


Rocksport camp 2022-23


Children's Day

Childhood is all about playfulness joy and innocence. Children's Day is celebrated across India to raise awareness about the rights, education, and welfare of children. It is celebrated on 14 November every year on the birthday of the First Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was known to be fond of children. On this day, we , at DPS Mathura Road organized many educational activities and did worksheets in class for Grade 1 to 3. The children of classes 4 and 5 did craft work and designed roses in class for themselves.


Guru Nanak Jayanti

On the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti all students of primary did the following activity.

The students made three promise cards on the three golden rules of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

They wrote one promise on each card that they make to themselves.


Math Week

ECO-FRIENDLY DIWALI

MATHS WEEK : MATHS IN REAL WORLD focused on empowering the learner by imparting knowledge for inculcating skills and abilities to deal with real life situations. Mathematics is an integral part of day to day life be it transaction of money, readings in the electricity metre, dates, time, calendar, measurement in cooking, stitching, symmetry, patterns, architecture, sports, interior designs etc . A comprehensive plan of activities for providing opportunities to the learner for Competency Based Learning was made for the Maths Week. Class-wise details are as follows:

DATE: 4-11-22
THEME: MATHS IN HOME DECOR

Students of Class 5 prepared and presented their models of home decor in their respective classrooms. The models were based on one or more mathematical concepts. It was interesting to see how students talked about the relevance and importance of mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, decimals, area, perimeter, measurement, tessellations, angles, shapes in the things they see around them on a day to day basis. A creative worksheet was attempted by the students which was also based on the same theme. The students assumed the role of little architects and designed a floor plan for their house using the concept of Multiplication of Fractions. It was a great learning experience for the students to showcase their innovation and creativity.

THEME: SYMMETRICAL IMPRESSIONS

Symmetry is easily noticeable in nature, various arts, buildings, and monuments which brings a sense of harmonious and beautiful proportion and balance. Students of Class 4 presented examples of symmetrical things around them . They talked about the line of symmetry, types of symmetry using models/ charts. All children participated with great zeal and fervour. Keeping Maths and Art Integration in mind, a creative worksheet based on symmetry was also attempted by the children.

THEME: MATHS MARATHON

Students of Class 3 showcased their talent by integrating Maths and Sports. The main objective of the activity was to enable children to appreciate role of Mathematics as a learning tool in sports and vice versa.

Students spoke about their favourite sport/game and explained how Maths is involved in that game. Each child was given a time period of 1-1.5 minutes to show his/her presentations .Children elaborated upon some amazing and unusual ways on how Maths forms an integral part of any sport, be it cricket, football, golf, polo, chess, billiards, archery etc. Keeping Maths and Art Integration in mind, a fun and calculative sports based worksheet was also attempted by the children.

THEME: SAVE THE DATE

To bring out the relevance of Maths in the real world, Class 2 chose the concept of calendar for the Maths Week activity. The theme ‘Save the Date’ was well presented by the young mathematicians of grade 2. They also highlighted different mathematical facts related to their birthday and month. Some amazing and unknown facts about different months were also revealed by them. To bring a meaningful and energetic end to the celebration a follow-up worksheet related to calendar was taken up in the class. Children participated wholeheartedly to make the event successful.

THEME: COMPUTATIONS AROUND US

Students of class 1 dressed up as people from varied professions and presented the significance of Maths in each. Children spoke about different professions emphasizing on how Maths is used as an integral part of their life. To reiterate the relevance of Maths in the real world, a follow-up worksheet related to the topic was taken up in the class.

ECO-FRIENDLY DIWALI

CLASS I-II SLOGAN WRITING

Children of classes I and II planned to celebrate “Green Diwali” and wrote a slogan on it. They were encouraged to think in advance and come prepared to share their unique ideas in school. Children took part in the activity with a lot of enthusiasm and learnt the value of Green and Pollution free Diwali.

CLASS III-IV POSTER MAKING

Children made a plan to celebrate “Green Diwali”. They made beautiful posters keeping in mind the following points.

  • Green crackers

  • Ways to check Noise pollution

  • Ensuring no wastage of food

CLASS V CREATIVE POSTER DESIGNING Children were encouraged to use different mediums to design a poster on “Green Diwali” using different mediums like waste material at home etc. Children loved the activity and also made graffiti art on paper.

EECC Activities Report

19.9.22 Get clicked with your self-styled bag-CLASS I to III

Class 1 and II students decorated cloth bag and learnt why Cloth bags are better than plastic bags. They decorated their bags very beautifully with zeal and enthusiasm. They understood that Cloth bags are reusable, decreases the need to use more materials for single-use production, also Cloth bags reduce plastic use and therefore plastic pollution. Children of classes I and II were also shown a video of a story- My Plastic bag which talked about the harms caused by plastic to the sea creatures and ultimately making us sick as we also eat sea food. Indeed it was a fun filled and enriching activity where in not only they decorated but also learnt the need of using cloth bags over paper or plastic bags. Children of class III used different decorative materials like fabric colors, sequence, crayons and stickers to decorate their cloth bags. They enjoyed the activity while being creative.

20.9.22 - Musical instruments using single-use plastic and other trash

India has banned the manufacture, sale and use of identified single-use plastic items like plates, cups, straws, trays and polystyrene from July 1, 2022.

Children of class IV and V were given an opportunity to show that they care for the environment by making something beautiful and useful out of trash, especially single- use plastic. They took part in the activity very enthusiastically. The activity was taken as an opportunity to be creative and innovative while reducing the carbon footprint.

21.9.22 EECC INITIATIVE - Use of Cloth napkin for wrapping food items.

Small steps can lead to a big change.

It is time we realize that wrapping food in aluminium foil is not good for our health and using paper foil will lead to cutting more trees. Children were told about the olden ways, just the way our Dadis and Nanis always used to wrap chapatis in a cloth napkin.

The junior school initiated the use of cloth napkin for wrapping food items from 21st September this year. Using cloth is eco-friendly and hygienic too as it can be washed after use. Children were encouraged to be a part of this initiative and encourage people around them to bring this change in their lives too.


'हिंदी सप्ताह प्रतिवेदन (२२.8.२२ - २६. ८. २२ )

दिल्ली पब्लिक स्कूल, मथुरा रोड के प्राथमिक विभाग में 22 अगस्त से 26 अगस्त, 2022 तक 'हिंदी-सप्ताह’ मनाया गया। इसका उद्देश्य न केवल छात्रों को भाषा का ज्ञान प्रदान करना था, बल्कि उनके समग्र व्यक्तित्व को निखारना भी था। कक्षा एक से पाँच तक प्रत्येक कक्षा में दिए गए विषय पर आधारित विभिन्न गतिविधियों का आयोजन किया गया, जिसमें छात्रों ने अपनी प्रतिभा का भरपूर प्रदर्शन किया। उदाहरण के लिए- मैं कौन हूँ? (छात्रों ने निर्धारित ऋतु के रूप में अपना परिचय दिया), मैं भी अभिनेता (ऋतु पर आधारित लघु-नाट्य- प्रस्तुति), मैं भी कवि (ऋतु से संबंधित कविता पाठ) आदि का सफल प्रस्तुतीकरण किया गया|

प्रत्येक छात्र को दिए गए विषयों पर बोलने का अवसर दिया गया। जब छात्रों ने अपने विचार सबके समक्ष प्रस्तुत किए, उनमें अद्भुत उत्साह का संचार देखने को मिला| गतिविधियों ने छात्रों में प्रचुर उत्साह पैदा किया और पूर्व तैयारी ने उनकी प्रतिभा का निर्बाध निष्पादन सुनिश्चित किया। हिंदी सप्ताह का मुख्य आकर्षण 'अंतरवर्गीय हिंदी वाद-विवाद' था, जिसमें छात्रों ने 'पाश्चत्य संस्कृति का अनुकरण भारतीय संस्कृति के लिए घातक है|' विषय पर अपने विचारों का आदान-प्रदान किया। छात्रों ने अपने विचार दृढ़ता एवं आत्मविश्वास के साथ प्रस्तुत किए|

हिंदी सप्ताह के उत्सव ने न केवल छात्रों को आत्म-अभिव्यक्ति द्वारा आत्मविश्वास हासिल करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया बल्कि 'राजभाषा-हिंदी' के प्रति उनके प्रेम को भी विकसित किया। समग्र रूप में देखा जाए, तो यह एक सफल आयोजन रहा और शिक्षकों के प्रयास की अत्यधिक सराहना की गई|


Teachers Day Activity

Teachers are the pillar of strength and the guiding force in students' lives. Teachers pass on values to children, prepare them for further education and are the main contributor to good education in a society. Students are deeply affected by teachers' love and affection and character.

And our loving students of all classes enjoyed imitating their teachers and filled the lives of their teachers with happiness by making cards showing their gratitude.


Earthquake Safety ProgrammeDate : 2-9-2022

A regular and continuous effort to be prepared and have knowledge on how to deal in difficult situations can save many lives. Earthquake is a disaster that may risk one’s property and even life. Since Delhi falls in the seismic zone IV it is important to include earthquake preparedness in our curriculum in order to equip the school children with the knowledge, proper attitude and skills on what to do in case of a natural disaster like an earthquake.

Keeping this in mind an earthquake drill was organised in the Primary Wing by the Disaster Management Club of Delhi Public School Mathura Road on 2nd September 2022 during the homeroom period. The drill was carried out simultaneously and smoothly in all the classes of the Junior school. All the classes were explained about the dos and don’ts during an earthquake. The teacher also discussed about the various safety measures and precautions to be taken during the session. It was a very informative drill.

CLASS I-Nature walk, collection of leaves

Nature is a God’s gift to us. It is what we see and feel around us .This is what children of grade 1 felt when they went for a nature walk. They enjoyed the weather and collected leaves and flowers and pasted in their EVS notebooks. The activity was conducted in all sections of grade 1 under EECC.

Class II- Mini garden

We don’t inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. —Native American proverb

In an attempt to bring a touch of nature inside the classrooms, a mini garden creating activity was done. Children across all sections of grade-2 participated whole heartedly in the activity. They enthusiastically tried planting, watering and placing their little planters in their classrooms. The teachers acted as facilitators guiding them about the right amount of water, appropriate place etc. On the whole, it was a great learning experience for the children.

Class III- Creative Planting

Gardening is a rewarding activity that teaches children several essential life skills. It keeps them close to nature, hones their senses, and encourages them to eat homegrown food. The Creative planting activity was taken up with students of class 3 on the 12th of August, 2022. Students were required to bring small pots/coconut shells/half cut plastic bottles, some soil and seeds. The class teachers demonstrated how we can sow seeds in planters. Different ways to plant seeds were discussed and students were encouraged to make their own kitchen garden at home with seeds which are easily available. Once the students were ready with their plants, name slips were attached to highlight the plant variety. The tiny planters were then collected and kept on the classroom window to observe the process of growing plants and learn from it. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity.

CLASS IV- Leaf 🍁 Painting

Children were taken for a nature walk in the school premises. They were encouraged to collect the fallen leaves. Children were highly excited and enthusiastic to participate for the same. They observed how leaves of different plants and trees have unique patterns, designs and shapes. They made beautiful paintings with the help of leaves.

Class-V- Nature Walk and Painting nature

A nature walk is the best way to have an interactive experience with our surrounding environment.

The students of class V went for a nature walk in the school premises on 22nd and 23rd August, 2022.They observed the plants, insects, and birds around them during the walk. The air was clean, cool, and fresh in the morning. It was a relaxing and rejuvenating experience for them. After coming back to the class, they drew a beautiful scenery based on theme ‘Nature’. Children used water colors, crayons and A-4 sheet for making the scenery. They showed a lot of creativity in making and coloring the drawings. The purpose of this activity was to encourage students to spend time in nature and appreciate its beauty. Spending time in nature also promotes better attention spans, self-discipline, creativity, physical fitness, and social connection in children.


Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan is the festival of brothers and sisters. On this day sisters tie rakhi on their brother’s wrist and take a promise for their life long bond of protection. To understand this tradition children made cards, rakhies and decorative plates and enjoyed the festivity.


Appreciating Friends

Friends are very important in life. They teach us how to share and care for each other. Friendship is one of the most sacred bonds. To realise the importance of friends and appreciate them, children of the primary wing made paper flowers and cards for their friends.


English Week 2022-23

Primary Wing celebrated the Annual English Week (2022-23) from 25-07-22 to 29-07-22. The theme of the English Week was ‘The Five Elements of Nature’ and the students of classes I to V performed various activities in their English periods related to the element assigned to each class. Theme- based activities were conducted in various classes.

International Day of Friendship

Friendship is one of the most beautiful relationships among humans. A friend is someone who is always present in the times of need. Friends are companions who support and guide you through tough times.

International Yoga Day-2021

International Yoga Day-2021 was celebrated on 21st June across the globe. The children of DPS, Mathura Road, junior wing participated in the celebration with full enthusiasm. A week long Yoga programme which enhanced the flexibility and strength of the young ones helped children in performing certain asanas independently and accurately.

Class I

Children of grade 1 did cat pose, puppy pose and cow pose. They really enjoyed doing the asanas.

Class II

Children performed Tadasana, Vrikshasana and Dancer pose.

Class III, IV,V

Children of class III, IV and V learnt Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar) and its benefits and performed the same.

Winners Of Spring Blossoms Poem And Colouring Competition 2021-22

SPRING BLOSSOMS

An Online Inter-school Poem recitation and Colouring Competition was organised by Heritage Foundation of Art and Culture for children in the month of May. It was a poem recitation competition for Pre-primary and Primary children to enhance their rhythm, cognitive understanding of words, the art of creative expression, memorization and presentation skills.

Children of Primary Wing won many awards in both the categories and brought accolades to the school. The event was a wonderful opportunity where these artistic gems showcased their creative as well as vivid ideas.

To inculcate the good values of love and kindness, it is important for the children to start caring for every human being around them at home and in the outside world. Keeping in mind the present pandemic situation, various appropriate activities were organised for the students of the Primary Wing, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, which they could easily enjoy at the comfort and safety of their homes. It was a pleasure to witness their interest and involvement in all the activities as they were very excited to learn the good qualities like moral values and kindness etc.

Class I- Clean city, Dream city
Children have their own way of expression. They have a vision of their own. To enable them to understand how important it is to have a clean surrounding, they were involved in an interesting activity to draw posters showing their idea of ‘Clean India.’ Children portrayed their vision on the paper by drawing beautiful posters.                

Class II- Stay Fit
A healthy body leads to a healthy mind. The art of practicing yoga helps in controlling an individual's mind, body and soul. It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind. It helps manage stress and anxiety and keeps us relaxing. Yoga asanas build strength, flexibility and confidence. Keeping all this in mind a yoga activity was organised for the children to stay fit and healthy, specially in these times of pandemic.

Class III – Quiz On the life of Gandhiji
An online quiz was conducted for the children of class III. By means of a quiz children were made to be able to learn about the life of Mahatma Gandhi. This was one of the research based activity in which children could willingly tend to learn about the life of Mahatma Gandhi and his principles.

Class IV- Be kind and keep the surroundings clean
It is important to learn by doing. To understand the importance of cleanliness children were made to take up the initiative to keep their surroundings clean. They conducted a cleanliness drive in their house as during this time of pandemic they should stay home and stay safe. To inculcate the good values of love and kindness for birds, animals and plants, it is important for the children to start caring for them at home. They also kept water pots and food for animals and birds.

Class V – Essay writing on the topic “Teachings of Mahatma Gandhi”
Essay writing is a great way of expression. By means of writing children can gather a lot of information about a topic. Keeping all this in mind children were given the task of writing an essay on the topic- “Teachings of Mahatma Gandhi”.

A myriad of activities were undertaken across the junior wing during the month to impinge upon the notion of self amongst students.

Prime objectives were to build competencies like self love, compassion, purposefulness and self empowerment.

Earth Day22nd April, 2020


Fire Drill24th February, 2020

Keeping in mind the safety of all at the time of unwanted and unexpected crisis, a fire drill was scheduled in the Junior Wing on 24th February, 2020. All the teachers and the children were given proper instructions and the evacuation plan was explained in advance. The evacuation plan is displayed on all the exit routes on all the floors for the safety of the children and the staff. The drill was a great success and the aim of imparting knowledge about the methodical process to safeguard the lives and property of people from unforeseen natural and man-made crises was fulfilled. This will surely give children the courage and confidence to fight against any calamity.


Earthquake Drill 14th February, 2020

An earthquake drill was conducted again in the Junior Wing on 14th February,2020 to educate the children and prepare them in case of any such emergency. The children were well prepared in advance and prior instructions were given to them. The children followed the instructions well and hid themselves under their desks immediately along with the teachers who stood at one of the corners inside the classroom. It was an important drill and a great step in training children to deal with such situations peacefully.


Rocksport

In continuation of the sports week Rocksport activities were organised for the students of class V, IV and class III on 5th, 10th and 11th February respectively.

05-02-2020 Rocksport activities were held for the children of class V. Children learnt how to be disciplined, active and fit while performing various activities.

10-2-2020 Rocksport activities were held for the children of class IV. Children learnt to be disciplined, active and fit while performing various activities.

11-02-2020 Rocksport activities were held for the children of class III. Children enjoyed all the activities and learnt team work.

Rocksport Activity for Class II

On Tuesday 17th of December, 2019 the students of DPS, Mathura Road of class II experienced the joy of participating in a physically challenging and extremely enjoyable Adventure Activity Camp on the grounds of the School.

The children were welcomed by their group leaders and together they participated in a wide array of events (around 12). These included the –

  • Hamster Wheel Magical Maze

  • Zorbing Hippity Hop Race

  • Commando Net Burma Bridge

  • Dragon Move Hopscotch

  • Rock Wall Climbing Tent Pitching

  • Laser Beam Cross Fire., etc

The vast premises of the school provided the perfect ambience for the camp which was appropriately adorned by camping tents, camping games and even a welcoming banner to add to the thrill of the occasion.

Watching the students participating with so much enthusiasm one could understand that indeed the children had spent a worthwhile day out on a cold winter day!

Rocksport Activity for Class I

Rocksport camp was set up for students of class 1 on 17th December 2019. It included a wide array of activities such as hop scotch, sport climbing, rope bridges, hoppity hop and many more. Students were encouraged to participate in the activities by a team of rocksport volunteers. The students were thrilled. The activities were planned one after the other to keep their energy high! The students enjoyed commando rope climb and wall climbing the most. The day ended on a high note with a game of tug of war. What a day!


World Toilet Day

World Toilet Day (WTD) is an official United Nations international observance day on 19 November to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis. Worldwide, 4.2 billion people live without "safely managed sanitation" and around 673 million people practise open defecation. This day aims to achieve sanitation for all and end open defecation. World Toilet Day exists to inform, engage and inspire people to take action toward achieving this goal. Hence through various activities like group discussions, presentations and videos children were made aware of the importance of World Toilet Day and they were also encouraged to spread awareness in their neighbourhood by talking to the maids, drivers etc at home.


World TV Day

In December 1996 the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 November as World Television Day commemorating the date on which the first World Television Forum was held in 1996.Children talked about the significance and bad effects of TV. They also had group discussions in the classes. They were also shown related videos on the smartboard.


अन्तर्वर्गीय हिंदी वाद- विवाद प्रतियोगिता 2019-20

कक्षा- 4 तथा 5

विधालय में 18 नवंबर से 22 नवंबर तक कक्षा 1 से 5 तक की कक्षाओं में हिंदी सप्ताह का आयोजन किया गया | इस दौरान हिंदी भाषा के चारों कौशलों पर आधारित गतिविधियों का समावेश किया गया | 19 नवंबर को होने वाली गतिविधियाँ वाचन कौशल पर आधारित थीं, अतः कक्षा 4 व 5 के छात्रों के बीच वाद- विवाद प्रतियोगिता रखी गई | इस प्रतियोगिता का विषय था – ‘प्लास्टिक जीवन का आधार है ‘ कक्षा 4 के छात्र पक्ष तथा 5 के छात्र विपक्ष में बोले | मुख्याध्यापिका श्रीमती रंजना डीन तथा वरिष्ठ अध्यापिका श्रीमती रेनु पुरी ने इस प्रतियोगिता में आरन्भ से अंत तक उपस्थित रह कर छात्रों का उत्साह बढ़ाया | इस प्रतियोगिता की निर्णायक समिति में शामिल थीं - श्रीमती भारती जोशी तथा श्रीमती वीना त्रिवेदी जोकि विधालय की उच्च कक्षाओं की हिंदी अध्यापिकाएँ हैं | वक्ता और श्रोता सभी का भरपूर ज्ञानार्जन हुआ | दोनों पक्षों के वक्ताओं ने अपने – अपने विचारों का प्रस्तुतीकरण बहुत प्रभावशाली ढंग से किया | निर्णायक मंडली ने सभी वक्ताओं की भरपूर प्रशंसा की तथा छात्रों से बात करके उनका उचित मार्गदर्शन किया | छात्रों के वाचन कौशल के विकास के लिए किया गया यह एक सफल प्रयास था | इस प्रतियोगिता का परिणाम इस प्रकार रहा |

Report: Inter Section Debate

An Inter-Section English debate was held on November 8, 2019 with the aim to hone public speaking skills of the students and to teach them to be articulate while expressing their thoughts and opinions. Our Vice-Principal Mrs. Reema Sharma graced the occasion with her presence. The debate was judged by Ms.Kamini Dhodhi and Ms.Disha Bhardwaj. The speakers of classes IV and V spoke eloquently on the topic: ‘Simplicity is the most valuable lifestyle’. All the contestants speaking for both ‘for’ and ‘against’ the motion debated enthusiastically and had put forth their arguments skilfully and convincingly.

Cello Workshop

A workshop to relieve examination stress was conducted by Cello the leaders in writing instruments on 6.09.19 in the KG hall for the students of class 5.

The children were told about the various techniques like

1.Mechanical Chain- pictures, shapes, diagrams etc are used to explain a topic.

2.Mind Mapping- Used for lengthy topics of science, history etc.

3.Mneomonic Chain- Where words or funny sentences are used to learn an order or series Eg. My Very Elegant Mother Just Served Us Nuts

World Tourism Day
27th September 2019

India has been chosen as the host country to celebrate World Tourism Day 2019 on the theme ‘Tourism and Jobs: A better future for all’. Celebrated every September 27 around the world, the purpose of World Tourism Day is to foster awareness among the international community on the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. The event seeks to address global challenges outlined in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and highlight the contribution the tourism sector can make in reaching these goals.

Children marked their favourite tourist spots in India on its map. They also talked about their favourite tourist destinations in India and their special attractions.


U.N International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. This year is particularly significant: It is the 20th Anniversary of the UN Resolution on the Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.

The entire junior school observed silence at 12 noon resulting in “Peace wave”. I an II

Cupcake Case Dove

Children made dove-the symbol of peace using cupcake cases. The instructions were give to them.

Classes III and IV

The Peace Crane Project
The students made cranes using origami sheet, wrote a message of peace on its wings, then exchanged it with other students.

Class V

Poetry Slam
Children wrote poetry on the theme of peace. A worksheet was provided to the children.The entire month was full of fun filled activities which enhanced children’s knowledge also.


Reading Week
9th to 12th September

The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005 at pages 40-41 highlights the need of building opportunities for individualised reading at all stages in order to promote a culture of reading. Following activities were conducted in all the classes during the Reading Week.

9th Sep- Developing Reading corners/class libraries to provide age- appropriate children's literature.

9th Sep- Read -a-thon- Fastest reader of class.

12th Sep- Making book buddies- pairing students together and asking them to choose and read a book and present the findings before the class.

12th Sep- Getting into character - Reading stories/poems/book etc and enacting their characters, recreating timelines of events etc.

14thSep- Integrating Reading and fine arts-Reading stories/poem/book etc and drawing pictures,posters etc on the basis of them.

14thSep- Readabate Competition(class 2) - Debating and defending the actions of characters in the story/book read.


International Literacy Day
08th September

8th September was declared as the International literacy day by UNESCO on 26th October 1966 at 14th session of UNESCO's General conference. It was celebrated for the first time in 1967. Its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. Celebrations take place in several countries. The junior school celebrated the same by doing the following activities.

Dear Time- Drop everything and read for 20 minutes. DEAR TIME was carried out in all the classes. Children were asked to bring their favourite books, novels etc…They exchanged books and read in the class.

Book Donation – Children were encouraged to donate their old books(which they no longer read)to the ayah didis of the school for their children.

My Favourite Book
Children made bookmarks on which they wrote why they love to read a particular book and why it is their favourite.

My Favourite Character
Children came dressed up as their favourite character to make reading a rewarding and enriching experience. They also talked about the character in the class like why do they like that character ? etc

Tutor An Adult-
Children were encouraged to teach an illiterate person near/in their homes like maids/sweepers etc. They shared their experiences after a week’s time in the class.


Puppetry and Magic Show
22nd August, 2019

“The world is full of magical things patiently waiting for our senses to sharpen”

When learning is not confined to textbooks and is rather gathered through experience, it’s value surpasses all expectations. Keeping the above thought at the heart of the event, The school hosted a puppetry and magic show for our young learners of classes 1 and 2 on 22nd August 2019 . The event was organised, keeping holistic development of a child in mind. The puppet show was carried out by experts from Jaipur, who not only entertained the children but also introduced them to the heritage art of puppetry. They also performed on Rajasthani songs that are based on folklore. Teachers also participated in the puppet show and made the event memorable. The students could hardly control their excitement when we moved on to the next segment, the magic show. The show amused the students but also made them curious. The students could be seen questioning and trying to decipher the magician's tricks. Such shows often help in developing a child’s questioning and participation ability. To sum it all, the event was a wonderful medley of heritage and magic and was certainly a fruitful experience.


Independence Day Activities
19th August, 2019

To create a fun filled environment children of the Primary wing were involved in various craft activities on 19th August, 2019. They were made to understand the importance of the Independence Day.

Children of classes I and II made beautiful flowers by folding origami sheets.

Class III children made beautiful cards and decorated their classes. Children of classes IV and V made beautiful tricolour decoration pieces.


Self Expression Day
02nd August, 2019

2nd August 2019 was celebrated as self expression day. To understand the importance of each profession it is necessary for the children to grow their knowledge about it. The children of classes I and II learnt the responsibilities carried by each profession by dressing up and enacting in that way. Class III children understood the importance of learning by doing. They expressed their thoughts about the various activities being carried out in the school like planting of trees, keeping the place around clean and saving water/electricity. Class IV and V children learnt how to control the wastage of resources along with the art of expression by expressing their views in their own way.


P.N. Panicker Memorial National Reading Day- Reading Month
19th June to 18th July, 2019

To celebrate 24th P. N. Panicker Memorial National Reading Day- Reading Month for acquiring employable skills through knowledge empowerment various activities were carried out in all the classes in the Primary Wing in the month of July. Children started the activities with taking the pledge to grow through reading and discussions and participating in the growth of the nation through continuous efforts on 9th July’19. They used their creativity and free thinking ability to design book covers on 11th July, 2019. A book donation drive was carried out where children learnt to give away the books which they have already read for the under privileged children. The books were donated to Isha Vidhya, a non-profit education initiative which works for the economic and social empowerment of rural children in the villages across southern state of South India .There was a story telling session on 15th July where children narrated stories with expression. It was overall a learning experience for the children of the Primary Wing which was useful in inculcating a sense of responsibility in them.


Art Competition
15th May 2019

Students from classes 1 to 5 participated with great zeal in the inter-school painting contest organised by the Delhi Public School Society in collaboration with Consumers India. The competition was organised to mark World Consumer day and World Health Day. The theme for the competition was Preserve Nature, Breathe Clean Air, Stay Healthy.

Six children from the junior wing went to Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya on 26th April, 2019 to participate in Munshi Memorial Inter School Competition-2019. They participated in the following events.

Story-telling Session with Grandparents
29th April 2019

“We are all storytellers. We all live in a network of stories. There isn’t a stronger connection between people than storytelling.”

A storytelling session by students’ grandparents was held on 29th April 2019. Grand parents of two students from grade I volunteered for the activity. Students from all the sections of grade 1 were assembled in the K.G. hall, where both the volunteers took the stage to tell stories. Their presence was refreshing and students enjoyed the session thoroughly. The storytelling was facilitated by video assistance through smart board, where students could see the pictures of the characters from the stories and text that was being presented. The students were engaged throughout the session and bombarded the grandmas’ questions and their experiences. The stories they presented were liked by one and all and talked about moral behavior. The session was made even more enjoyable by their unique style of narration and jolly nature. All in all, it was a fruitful session that helped revive the fading tradition of Story-telling at our homes. It also served as a brilliant opportunity for the students to rekindle with and learn from the elders.


International Dance Day
29th April 2019

International Dance Day is celebrated on 29th April 2019 to promote the art of dance round the world. To commemorate this day, students were engaged in a dance – based activity. The activity began with an introductory discussion where students were told about international dance day and why is it celebrated. Following this, various international as well as Indian dance forms were introduced to students. Videos were shown on the smart boards to elaborate on their dancing style and country of origin. Students participated in the discussion enthusiastically and were keen on sharing what they knew about these dances. This proved out to be a brilliant opportunity for peer learning in the classroom, as students got to know of various dances through their friends. After a round of healthy classroom discussion, the students were all set to let loose and were provided with a perfect opportunity to – dance it out! A variety of music videos were played in class, having popular international dance forms and students were allowed to dance to the beat. Apart from being enjoyable, dancing helps increase muscle strength, coordination, motor fitness, agility and flexibility which are important factors in a child’s overall development. Overall, this activity struck a perfect balance between academic enrichment as well as physical and psychomotor development.


Earth Day

Theme-“ Preservation Of Endangered Species”

Earth Day was celebrated in the school with great zeal and zest.

Earth Day is an annual event held to support and demonstrate environmental protection. Activities like collage making, slogan writing, puppet making, an eco-march were conducted.


Welcome Assembly
04th April 2019

To mark the beginning of the new session a welcome assembly was held on 4th April,19. The junior school welcomed the little ones who have just come to class I from pre- primary wing.

Co-curricular Events

The Ministry of Power launched the National Awareness Campaign in order to promote energy conservation in the country. A Painting competition for students was one of the activities of the campaign, which would not only make aware the children about the need of conserving energy but at the same time educate and involve their parents as well. The competition is held at three stages, namely, School, State and National Level.

A Mock Earthquake Drill was held on 4th October with full participation of students and staff.

Class 1 participated in the 'Road Safety Awareness Campaign 2018-2019' organised by 'Road Safety Cell' of 'Delhi Traffic Police' on 10-10-2018. The students were given colouring sheets and colour boxes to concretize their learning about Traffic Sense. The sheets had well-depicting road safety events.

As part of Environment activities, classes II- V were shown Rain Water Harvesting Plant in the school from 5th October onwards. The objective of this activity was to sensitize children towards the need of conserving water. The children were explained how rain water was collected, stored and reused for various purposes like irrigation, cooking, drinking etc.

A magic show was also organized for the students of class I and II. The resource person, Mr. Chopra showed his impressive skills. The students were swayed by the magical tricks displayed by him.


Co-curricular Events Music

A scintillating musical extravaganza “Oscillating Rhythm” was held in Junior School from 15th to 17th October 2018 for students of classes I to V.

On 15th October 2018, eminent singer,Mr Alankar Malhotra, was the Chief Guest.

Our Principal Mr. Manohar Lal applauded the accomplishment of young children and inspired them to continue to work diligently so as to reach the pinnacle of success.

It was a proud moment for all of us to hear that in a Survey done on Education System our school stood amongst the best five schools at the national level and the same was mentioned in the Magazine 360.

Sir’s speech was highly enlightening and gave us tips on how we need to work with our children. It was indeed on eye opener for one and all.

The programme was then handed over to the music team of Mrs. Geeta and Mr.Shekhar. At the outset the audience witnessed the wonderful Orchestra –“Teen Taal” which was a visual treat followed by ghazals presented by students from class V and Class IV showcased folk songs. There were some power packed Solo performances too.

In continuation,the Second day, 16th October 2018 class III presented western classics followed by Patriotic songs by class II.

On the third day, 17th October 2018 we were honoured to have amongst us the first lady of our school Mrs Kanta Lal –Headmistress, Pre-Primary, DAV School, Shalimar Bagh as our Hon’ble Chief Guest.

Our budding singers of class I sang devotional songs with full enthusiasm, passion and confidence. The show featured the songs by the legendary singers of Bollywood. It was a treat to the ears to hear them

After the musical performances Mrs Kanta Lal addressed the gathering. She lauded the vision and the relentless hard work done by students and their mentors for presenting such a mesmerising programme. She stated that she felt honoured and elated to have come that day. She focused on the fact that school has taken the first step towards making them reach greater heights and become like Asha Bhonsle, Lata Mangeshkar, Salman Ali and Neelanjana Ray.
