Literati’23- The Annual English Literary Festival:

The Senior English Publications of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road organised its Annual English Literary Festival-Literati on July 13 and 28, 2023. The literary festival was a miscellany of online, onsite and hybrid events that unfurled the creative outpourings of the students. It gave them the wings to soar to new heights of lyrical excellence. The event aimed to engage the students across Middle and Senior School in a fulfilling literary sojourn. The events catered to nurture love and appreciation for literature, boost creativity, and inculcate reading habit in the students.

The festival witnessed a total of nine events. The events - Doodle me, La Artista, Poet’s Shack and Wandering lens were conducted online. The students exhibited their artistic fervour in Doodle Me and La Artista, wherein they had to create covers for the School Magazine and Almanac. The budding writers composed beautiful poems and narratives in Poet’s Shack and showcased their exemplary photography talent in Wandering Lens.

The on-site events were Parchment and Ink, Shakespeare Live, Sixth Sense and Word Pals. The event Parchment and Ink was organised on July 13, 2023, wherein the students of Classes IX to XII wrote prolific essays.

The event, Sixth Sense, saw participation from the students of Classes VI to VIII. The first of its kind on this platform, an event that challenged students to weave a yarn in merely six words.

The event, Quizardry, witnessed participation from students of Classes VI to VIII. The preliminary round was held online, wherein the questions were based on books written by renowned authors- The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Following this, there were three offline rounds, wherein partly hidden book covers were guessed by students and emojis were decoded to reveal the name of the book. In the second round, the questions were based upon the present English Curriculum. In the final round, general questions based on literature were posed, thereby testing the comprehension skills of the students and unravelling their curiosity.

Among the several grand events was Word Pals, an exhilarating Spell Bee Competition. The event allowed participants to uncover their spelling ability and cast a magical spell. The event saw an overwhelming participation from students of Classes VI to IX who faced a barrage of tough questions. The final round was divided into two segments, the first being a test of synonyms and then second, a pictionary contest. Despite the confusing spellings and the perplexing words, the participants shone and competed with a fiery spirit.

On the second day, the students participated in the highlighting event of Literati'23-Shakespeare Live. The Principal, Ms. Reema Sharma graced the occasion with her benign presence. The students of Classes X to XII enacted monologues and soliloquies from Shakespeare’s Plays, splendidly. The event witnessed the gracious presence of Ms. Anita Dixit and Ms. Astha Mahajan as the judges for the event. The former Editors of the school were also present during the event. Shakespeare Trivia, a quiz-based on Shakespeare and his works was also held along with the enactment, in which not only the knowledge of the participants but the audience was also put to test. The event concluded with the Principal, Ms. Reema Sharma addressing the gathering and felicitating the winners.

Literati’23 provided an opportunity to the students to develop their self-confidence, talent and interpersonal skills. It was an exhilarating display of creativity, innovation and exuberance.
