Like every year; this year also the Students’ Union of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi organised CATALYST – An Initiative by Parivartan (The Social Wing of SU, AIIMS) on 27th and 28th April 2017 at JLN Auditorium, AIIMS, New Delhi.
This is an event which aimed at generating interest among class 8th – 12th students in the field of medical science and technology, in which the undergraduates at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi demonstrate the following:
The students of our school got the golden opportunity of taking part in such a prestigious event. 40 students from XI-E(Biology),various sections of Class IX and X along with their teachers, Ms Seema Mishra and Ms Priyanka Bhattacharya attended this event on 28th April,2017.
The very sight of AIIMS campus made the students cheer as they were in the place where their future would eventually nurture. The event included a communicative session with the toppers of AIPMT and JEE examinations who focussed on the strategies to be followed for preparing for such entrance examinations.
Then, students were taken to different Physiology Stations where they could actually see and understand the concepts behind EMG, ECG, SPHYGMOMANOMETER, SNELLENS CHART, ISHIHARA CHART along with the techniques of their diagnosis.
The students were then directed to the Anatomy section where they could see and touch the various anatomical specimens which included the human brain, spleen, heart, lungs, small intestine, kidney, uterus, skeletal system etc.
In the Convergence Block, students got familiar with the pathological specimens including that of lung cancer, peptic ulcer, intestinal polyps, colon cancer, and liver cirrhosis.
The students were also shown various anatomical and pathological slides.
It was a day of the lifetime. It was like stepping into a different world. The teachers too were equally eager to explain these things in a completely new way. Students were no longer reading about things, they were experiencing it first time. When students came out they realised all of the amazing things that Science has to offer and so much more beyond.
“Somewhere something is waiting to be known” - All that we need is a lot of hard work and determination.
